The end of the year is always a good time to look back and think of the many wonderful people and things that came our way. It is endearing to know that St. Nicks will always be our 2nd home as our 大姐姐 have held on to the strings and kept the family going even as we seek new pastures and often forgot to look back. They have kept onnections with our teachers, friends and memories of yesteryears while creating new ones to be cherished years after. Let us say thank you and continue to be a part of this wonderful family where we grow stronger in love wherever we may be.
As 2011 ends, we bid a fond farewell to current principal Ms Chan Wan Siong who has led St Nicks for the past five years. Under her watch, St Nicks has continued to excel academically. She has also had the unique challenge of keeping the school spirit alive through the building transition period. From us at the Alumnae Association, we thank her for her support of the AA through the years and wish her the best in her next posting.
Our incoming principal is Ms Tan Wai Lan 惠兰姐, who is also an old girl from the Class of 1983. In this issue, Erya talks to Wai Lan and finds out more about her impressive background as well as her plans for the school. Wai Lan shared with us her initial trepidation when she was first approached about this position many years ago. As those of us who were in St Nicks under Mrs. Hwang-Lee Poh See in the 1980s and 1990s know, Mrs Hwang left some big shoes to fill! However we have every confidence that 惠兰姐 will do us proud in her new role!
With the school moving back to the AMK St 13 site next June, old girl Joanna has launched a 'Pot-for-Pot' pottery sales-cum-donation drive to green our new premises. We are also launching new designs for the Old Girls' T-shirt. Finally, we will soon be beginning preparations for St. Nicks' 80th year birthday bash in 2013. In fact, there are already hints of 再见周会2! For those of you keen to be part of this exciting team, please write in and share your ideas with us!
